WEATHER BLOG: More Snow Coming

Another weekend, another impactful storm on the horizon for the greater Northeast! I believe this is the third consecutive weekend… as this seemingly "endless winter" continues! But before we get into the wintry details, its a cold start for late February across the region as a broad 1040mb high rests over the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic. This high will retreat to the north and east tonight as warm advection related precipitation streaks across the Ohio Valley and into western Pennsylvania on the Appalachians. Low level cold will be trapped east of the Appalachian Mountains on Sunday morning… and with plenty of moisture advection occurring, we have sped up the timing on the arrival and departure time of precipitation.

Sunday Details:

Timing… A touch of snow arriving between 11 AM and 2 PM, quickly changing to ice, ending from Southwest to North-east from 10 PM to 1 AM as plain rain.

Type… Brief snow to start across the area… quickly changing to some ice in the afternoon; ice transitioning to plain rain in the evening.

Accumulation… Perhaps a coating of snow… with a glaze of ice expected.

Impact:

A slippery Sunday AM commute with remnant ice in spots. Clouds will break for sunshine on Monday as high pressure builds in from the west; Tuesday looks to turn out mostly
dry, though another storm will impact the area in the evening and at night. Right now, it looks to be an ice to rain type scenario, perhaps ending as some snow Wednesday night. A more tranquil weather regime will follow thereafter. Should not impact Monday morning commute.
