WEATHER BLOG: Storm Update

We have a few changes tonight. First Warning Weather has pushed back the change over time an hour or two; looks like in the city 4 or 5 a.m. till it's going to sleet and snow.

The focus for the heaviest snow is across the Baltimore metro area for late tonight into tomorrow. This is the area with the longest duration snow.

Overall in the I-95 Corridor, 6-8 inches is a good range at this point. The best area for more than 8 inches should be outside of the cities and east of the Chesapeake across the Central Delmarva and central Delaware.

Changeover times: Mason-Dixon line between 2-4 a.m., BWI to DCA 3-5 a.m. During the initial
changeover period, it appears that there will be a couple hour time frame that there will be sleet in
the area before the change to snow happens. The duration of the sleet will be key to how much
snow there will be. If the sleet were to last a bit longer than anticipated, snowfall totals could end up
a little lower. At this point, it looks like this change to sleet should not hinder the snowfall totals
significantly across the area.

Weather following the storm looks good going into next week. High pressure moving through the
Dakotas will spread east late tomorrow and Friday bringing dry weather to the area.

A series of weak fronts will cross the area this weekend and early next week. These fronts will be
moisture starved and little if any precip will make it far enough south to have an impact on the
viewing area.

High pressure follows and the early next week time frame will be dry. The question is how warm
will it get early next week. It does look like we will trend toward normal over this time period.
