Maryland Moves Up To No. 8 In AP Poll, Wells Earns B1G Co-Player Of The Week

The Associated Press Top 25 poll has the Maryland Terrapins once again climbing the ranks. A week ago the Terps moved up to number 10 in the rankings which was their highest position since 2003. After 12 years, the Turtles have matched their 2003 ranking and are back to No. 8 in the nation.

The No. 8 ranked Maryland Terrapins played to a 14-4 record in the Big Ten Conference (26-5 overall) and earned a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament to be played at Chicago's United Center. They'll face the winner of the Indiana-Northwestern game (Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. ET) on Friday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Big Ten announced on Monday that Maryland Terrapins senior guard/forward Dez Wells will share Big Ten Player of the Week honors with Wisconsin senior forward and Wooden Award finalist Frank Kaminsky. The two also shared player of the week on February 16.

Wells had two double-doubles while averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2 steals per game in road wins against Rutgers and Nebraska. He was 14-of-27 (51.9 percent) from the floor and 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) from the line.

Wells has had a great senior season despite battling past early injuries. He averaged 15.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in conference play.
