Terrell Suggs Restructures Again To Help Ravens Cap Situation
There has been talk of the Ravens attempting to restructure the contracts of several players on the Ravens roster including DT Haloti Ngata and CB Lardarius Webb. But veteran OLB Terrell Suggs has stepped up to the plate for the second year in a row to renegotiate his most recent five-year, $28.5 million contract.
In February of 2014, Suggs negotiated a deal to make him a "Raven for life" that opened up about $5 million in cap room as Suggs was scheduled to use up $12.4 million of cap space.
According to Aaron Wilson of our media partner the Baltimore Sun, "The Ravens converted Suggs' $4 million base salary for 2015 into a $3 million bonus and lowered his base salary to $1 million for this year. That creates $2.25 million in salary-cap space. His salary-cap figure for this year will go down from $6.2 million to $3.95 million."
Sure, Suggs didn't exactly "take one for the team" so to speak as he didn't have to sacrifice anything but he did give his team a better shot at meeting the cap.
This news comes a day after the Ravens tendered contracts with K Justin Tucker ($2.356 million second-round restricted free agent tender), S Will Hill ($1.542 million low tender ) and CB Tramain Jacobs, putting them up against the salary cap.
The situation with Haloti Ngata hasn't seemed to go anywhere over the past several weeks. Following news that Ndamukong Suh agreed to one of the biggest contracts in football history, $114 million contract with $60 million guaranteed, Ngata and his agent aren't feeling any pressure that his contract is too high. There are still options on the table but for now it's a stalemate.
Talks have continued with CB Lardarius Webb as well and appear to have made more progress than the Ngata situation.
