Naming Carroll County's Newest K9

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) -- Fighting crime on four legs. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is growing its K9 unit.

As Amy Yensi explains, the newest patrol dog needs a name for her badge.

She may have a cute face, but this K9 cop means business.

She's furry, friendly, has four legs and is the newest member of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

There are other patrol dogs here in Carroll County, but this is the first blood hound to join the mix. She needs a name before she can hit the streets.

"We are looking for names and possibly stories behind them the name. Why would it make such a good name?" said Master Patrol Deputy Kathleen Yox, Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

As part of the K9 unit, she will be treading her paws on some rough terrain.

"There are a lot of different circumstances that they can be called out for. As mentioned, sometimes it's tracking missing people, sometimes it's tracking fugitives," said Cpl. John Light, Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

The four-month-old pup with the droopy cheeks and low-hanging ears is joining four other K9s in the county. She will be sniffing out the bad guys with Master Patrol Deputy Kathleen Yox.

"She now owns me, and I think it's going to be a great opportunity for the community and the citizens of Carroll County," she said.

Though she's on a leash, the canine is already showing her patrol potential.

"She is very aggressive. She's definitely the bold one of the group. She is into everything. She loves people," said Yox.

But maybe still a little camera shy.

The sheriff's office needs to name the dog before she can start her canine training.
