Coach Of The Week - Adam Leader

Reservoir High School Head Baseball Coach Adam Leader joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn in this weeks segment of Coach of the Week brought to you by CountySportsZone.com. The Reservoir Gators are the defending MPSSAA Class 3A State Champions, Adam spoke about winning his first state title with a program that he has built from the ground up. "I think one of the great things that we have built here is that we have a great group of coaches who have been here for about 8 years now. So we focus on as all being on the same page and we work very closely with our JV squad as well so that when kids are coming up to our varsity level they're not learning new stuff.  We work closely together as a group and as a program, and I think that helps with the success so that we are not reteaching stuff once they get to the varsity level."

Jeremy who is a coach in youth sports as well but not quite on the same level as Adam, asked Coach what difficulties he comes across when trying to teach some of the younger kids on the team. "I think speed is big, I think a lot of people don't realize that the speed of the game, not just pitching wise, is very difficult going from Rec and Travel leagues to the JV level then to the Varsity level. Just the speed of getting the ball out of your glove and throwing it to a base or when you get a base hit its not so easy to get to first base. To me its one of the difficult things and it's another reason why we try to work with as many young kids as we can to get them up to speed as fast as possible."

Cody Morris who is a pitcher for Reservoir has been recognized as a great player and has received a scholarship to attend and play for the University of South Carolina. Adam gave his thoughts on a talented young player. "Cody is a special player, he is actually a special person too. He's just a great kid, works very hard and a very good team player. He's been up on varsity since his freshman year and he is a senior now. He's very grounded and is very excited to be here. New kids come up and it's not like he's above them, he puts his arm around those guys and welcomes them to the program."
