Taking A Look At The MLB As Spring Training Comes To An End.

Jason Catania of Bleacher Report joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to take a look at the rosters across Major League Baseball as Spring Training comes to an end. On Monday afternoon the New York Mets acquired left-handed reliever Alex Torres from San Diego Padres in return fringe prospect. The Mets were rumored to be heavily interested in Orioles reliever Brian Matusz, Scott and Jeremy asked if that kills the Matusz to Mets rumors. "Yeah I think it probably does. They already had another left-hander in there too. I think Sean Gilmartin potentially, the Rule 5 pick, might stick with them as well or at least give him a chance. I think Matusz at this point is making 3 or so million dollars, which is a little bit pricey for the Mets standards in a weird way for a left handed-reliever."

The Chicago Cubs made a big move on Monday afternoon by sending stud prospect Kris Bryant down to the minor leagues with just a week until opening day. Jeff believes the Cubs made the right move by demoting the blossoming star. "This is really in so many ways, a no-brainer. Its just odd that the sport of baseball needs to have these star players in the majors as soon as possible when they're ready. I think that Bryant by most accounts is ready, maybe there is some questions defensively or with his strikeouts but it seems to me that he should be in the majors. But it's one of those things where trading 2-3 weeks of him in 2015 versus all of 2021 makes all the sense in the world from the Cubs in the long-term standpoint."

Finally Jeremy asked Jason to give his thoughts on where the Orioles stand in the AL East with less than a week until Opening Day. "I think they took a little bit of a step back, losing Cruz and his 40 home runs even if he wouldn't do it again that is a big blow. Nick Markakis, just from the stand point of longevity and what he meant to that franchise is a big loss. Matt Wieters needs to be healthy, that's obviously a big thing going forward number one. If he can throw or not is another factor. Certainly a guy like Kevin Gausman could be a guy who could become their number one type starter, and Manny Machado needs to stay healthy. If those things happen then I think that they could be right back where they were last year."
