Bruce Laird Weighs In On The Ravens Off-Season

Former Baltimore Colt and part of the Monday Morning Quarterback team on Norris and Davis, Bruce Laird joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to check in half way through the Ravens off-season. The Ravens made a move acquiring quarterback depth by signing veteran quarterback Matt Schaub to a one year 3 million dollar contract to back up Ravens QB Joe Flacco. Bruce is a fan of the move. "Smart, smart move. Obviously he knows the west coast (offense) deal. A cerebral guy, he's been around a long time and he's done well. He's not going to hurt you if you want to call it managing games. That's really what it's all about,  don't make the stupid mistake and understand when to throw the ball away, things like that will be a big help to Joe as well."

The Ravens have a big hole at the Wide Receiver position with only one proven veteran Wide Out on the team. Bruce says that in order for Baltimore to make the playoffs, they need to make a upgrade at the position. "That's just too much of a question mark for a franchise who works this way. We go to training camp, we fight the regular season to do one and one thing only and that's to make the second season. Once we're in the second season we have a shot and we'll make a run of it. This organization has done that with the Modell's and they've done it with Bisciotti and this franchise all about that one thing, get to the second season. I don't think that as a head coach or a coordinator, if I'm looking at that I won't sleep well at night."

Contact sports and concussions have been a hot topic for the NFL as of late, Scott asked Bruce if he would feel comfortable to see his grandchildren play football. "I do not want them in a uniform until they're after 12 years old. Again if there is any head trauma that they have and is repeated, I wold say no it's time to go. It's not an exact science."
