Md. Man Pleads Guilty In California Baby's Sex-Abuse Case

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A former children's counselor in Maryland and Arizona has pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation charges in a case involving a Southern California pediatric nurse accused of sexually abusing his 6-week-old foster child.

Federal prosecutors say 34-year-old Stephen Schaffner of Greensboro, Maryland pleaded guilty Friday and is expected to be sentenced to 35 years in prison in July.

Schaffner's attorney didn't return messages for comment Saturday.

The case involves 51-year-old Michael William Lutts, a San Diego County pediatric nurse who pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation in January. Charging documents say Lutts got custody of a prematurely born foster baby last year, and immediately began filming himself molesting the boy.

Schaffner was accused of directing Lutts to abuse the infant and send him the photos and videos.

Lutts' sentencing is set for June.
