B&O Railroad Museum Tributes Lincoln's Life
WASHINGTON (WJZ) -- A hundred and fifty years ago today, Abraham Lincoln was shot. Now the state has compiled some of the dozens of sites relating to that day and those times in a self-guided tour.
Mike Schuh has more.
The director of the B&O Railroad Museum helps with giving President Lincoln his due. Under the great roundhouse roof, a celebration is not happening here, but a tribute to Abraham Lincoln is happening at dozens of sites around the state.
A train similar to the B&O engine that carried Lincoln's body across the state is decorated like the original.
"I think this is a grand opportunity to not only commemorate Lincoln's life and his legacy but also to take a peek and become a part of what the nation might have felt at his death," said the director of the B&O Museum.
Here, there is an exact replica of his coffin and around the state, a whole program devoted to following the route of his assassin.
"History has happened here. A lot of people don't know about it," said the director.
This week, there are 11 events at as many sites.
At the roundhouse of the B&O Museum, they are having special rememberances on both Saturday and Sunday morning.
