First Female Blue Angels Pilot To Perform At OCMD Air Show

OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland native and the first female pilot to ever fly with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be performing for hometown fans at the Ocean City Air Show in June.

Marine Capt. Katie Higgins, of Severna Park, will fly C-130 'Fat Albert' for spectators June 13 and June 14.

Higgins is a third generation military aviator and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. She got her masters in international security from Georgetown University before starting flight school in Pensacola, Fla.

She'll be one of the three Blue Angels pilots to fly the C-130 Hercules -- known as 'Fat Albert'.  Higgins has flown almost 400 combat hours and joined the Blue Angels in September 2014.

"We are excited to welcome Katie to Ocean City and we know all of Maryland is proud of her," said Bryan Lilley, President of the OC Air Show.  "She will add even more excitement to this amazing lineup with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Breitling Jet Team, and the F-22 Raptor Demo Team. Those are three of the biggest acts in the air show industry, all performing in the same year."
