WEATHER BLOG: Sunday

After a cool start, Saturday was a relatively dreary April day with BWI getting to 52 with plenty of clouds. That trend will break Sunday as an area of weak high pressure controls our weather. Highs Sunday look to be in the low 60s with a mixture of sun and clouds.

By Monday, an upper low will retrograde into the northeast, bringing some cooler air aloft. This will lead to "self destructive" sunshine on Monday, with cumulus building in the afternoon. Showers are also possible during the afternoon.

This unsettled weather will push east by Tuesday and flow will shift out of the west, warming us up and bringing back the sunshine. Temperatures will also moderate into the 60s for Tuesday and Wednesday.

By Thursday, latest guidance has trended cooler and wetter as an area of low pressure will pass off the coast and attempt to phase with a northern stream disturbance as well. The newest 0z GFS gives the region quite a bit of rain Thursday with damp, dreary conditions, while the Euro is farther south, allowing the region to escape the wettest and coolest conditions. For now, we allowed for some showers, but mention that there could be some steadier rain if a GFS type solution evolves. A wetter solution will also impact temperatures as well. For now I went with low 60s, but if a GFS
type solution verifies it will likely be in the 50s, and if a drier solution occurs, it will be in the upper 60s.

Regardless, by Friday conditions will improve and 70s are likely. By the weekend, an upper level ridge will begin to build into the region, and warmer conditions will be likely.
