No Bail For Woman Accused Of Killing Her Former Roommate

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A prosecutor says a man whose decomposing remains were found in a Hagerstown apartment died of asphyxiation and was wrapped in blankets and trash bags.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports (http://bit.ly/1Fp5nAl ) Assistant State's Attorney Leon Debes said at a court hearing Friday that 65-year-old William Carter was found hog-tied in an apartment in February, about 11 days after investigators believe he was killed.

Police announced Thursday that they had charged Leandra Renee Blunt, who had been living with Carter, with first- and second-degree murder. If convicted Blunt could face life in prison.

Assistant Public Defender Carl Creeden represented Blunt and asked Circuit Court Judge M. Kenneth Long Jr. to set a bail for Blunt. Long denied the request.

A date for Blunt's next court appearance has not been set.
