Hogan Appoints 3 To Md. Open Meetings Board

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed three members to the State Open Meetings Law Compliance Board.

Shareese Churchill, a Hogan spokeswoman, said Tuesday that Gerald "Rod" Wittstadt has been appointed chairman of the three-member board. He worked as an attorney with Butler & Hosch, a national foreclosure banking law firm that announced Monday it has closed.

The governor also appointed April Ishak to the board. She is an attorney with Stark & Keenan in Bel Air, specializing in trusts and estates.

Rachel Shapiro, an attorney with Miles & Stockbridge who specializes in commercial litigation and business torts, also has been appointed.

The board's complaint procedures offer members of the public an alternative to going to court, if they feel the state's Open Meetings Act has been violated. The board issues written opinions. It does not have investigative or enforcement powers.
