Jamie Hector Talks Acting, Says 'When All Else Hits The Fan, I Jump Back Onstage'

On this episode of Jayson on the Rebound, Jayson Williams sat down for a hilarious conversation with "The Wire" and "Bosch" star Jamie Hector. After rattling off some Chappelle Show-worthy anecdotes about his endearingly crazy family, Williams talks with the veteran performer about his career, his future ambitions and the nature of acting.

Hector opened up about his unconventional childhood and views about the difference between performing on stage and on screen. The actor explained that he has a lifelong passion for the theater, saying “When all else hits the fan, I jump back onstage.”

Hector also spoke about the rigors of acting, which include the extensive preparation a performer must undertake before assuming a new persona, and how putting in 15 hour days on set can be exhausting. Williams agreed and related his ill-fated and deeply uncomfortable experience acting in the 1997 film Kelsey Grammer flop, "Down Periscope."

Finally, Hector gave his insights into his most famous role, that of ruthless drug kingpin Marlo Stansfield on "The Wire." He noted the ways in which the character was similar to the notoriously amoral heads of companies like Enron. The actor also gave his thoughts on drug legalization.
