Maryland's Flying Dog Cancels Plan For Virginia Farm Brewery

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick's Flying Dog Brewery has cancelled plans to launch a separate farm brewery in northern Virginia.

The Frederick News-Post reports that the craft brewery had hoped to launch Farmworks Brewery on the site of a hops farm in Lucketts, Virginia. The plans were initially announced in December.

Erin Weston, director of communications for the brewery, says Shadow Farms, the Lucketts location, was not a good fit for the project. She says the brewery would like to use more local hops, but there isn't enough local production to do that.

The since-cancelled brewery was expected to include a 15-barrel brewhouse and focus on producing experimental beers such as barrel-aged and sour beers.

Flying Dog products are distributed in 19 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and parts of Western Europe.
