Group Leads Training For Disability Response

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland group is leading a training session for first responders to help them better interact with people who are developmentally disabled.

The Arc Maryland is holding the session in Gaithersburg on Monday.

It's part of the National Center on Criminal Justice and Disability's efforts to provide first responders with the best tools to achieve better outcomes during interactions with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Arc Maryland is the state's largest statewide grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to the rights of people with developmental disabilities.

Cristine Marchand, executive director of The Arc Maryland, says bringing together law enforcement, advocates and people with developmental disabilities is a great opportunity to develop the best training possible for first responders.
