D.C. Mayor Avoids Saying 'Redskins,' Wants To Speak To Owner

WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser is once again referring to the Washington Redskins without mentioning the team's full name. But she still wants to talk to the team and owner Dan Snyder about a new stadium in the nation's capital.

Emails obtained by The Associated Press through a public-records request show that Bowser administration officials have been in talks with Redskins officials and were trying to set up a phone call between Bowser and Snyder. The two have not yet spoken, but Bowser said at a news conference Tuesday that her administration is interested in talking to the team about its "needs."

Bowser also said she finds the Redskins' full name to be "offensive." Earlier this year she attracted attention for referring to the team by its full name.
