New Amazon Service Delivers Items In An Hour

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Shoppers in the Baltimore are are taking advantage of a new service from Amazon. Now you can have items delivered to your door in an hour.

Pat Warren has more on how it works.

Since Amazon opened its distribution center on Broening Highway, it's had a bigger presence in Maryland---in more ways than one.

The world's largest online retailer brought 1,000 jobs to Baltimore when it opened its fulfillment center and it can now deliver thousands of items to the doors of Prime customers in two hours or less.

"Prime Now is free two hour delivery anywhere in the city and parts of the county," said Aaron Toso, Amazon.

The Prime Now app is a big hit in Fells Point, Harbor East, Little Italy and Canton but as word spreads, so does its popularity. It's included in the $99 annual Prime membership and downloaded to your phone.

"If you're a Prime member, all of your address book and your billing information will be migrated over so you can start shopping right away," Toso said.

There are about 25,000 items available through Prime Now and, while not available in all areas yet, it's making procrastinators happy.

"Even the best of intentioned children are a little procrastinators, such as myself. We actually even have Father's Day cards. If your dad's into gaming or gadgets, Fitbits, we have gifts for them," Toso said.

And if you can't wait two hours for free delivery, they can get it to you in one for $7.99.

You should also know that Amazon includes a minimum $5 tip when it processes your order.

The Prime Now service started in March of this year.
