Md. Lottery Tickets Stolen By Looters May Have Been Cashed
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission says some instant lottery tickets stolen by looters during rioting in Baltimore in April may have been cashed in.
The Daily Record reports that the topic came up at an agency meeting Thursday in Baltimore.
Assistant Director Gina Smith says there's no way to quantify the number of tickets stolen during the rioting that followed the death of Freddie Gray, who was injured in police custody, or the number that may have been cashed in.
She says investigators worked to determine which vendors were affected and to block stolen tickets from being cashed. But Smith says some stolen tickets may have slipped through.
She says about 40 retailers were affected.
The agency is looking for ways to improve controls on stolen tickets.
