Mayor Rawlings-Blake Unveils A New Baltimore Fun Wagon

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Baltimore Recreation and Parks (BRCP) will join representatives of Walmart and community members to unveil this summer's Fun Wagon on Wednesday afternoon at the Robert C. Marshall Recreation Center.

The trailer will travel through Baltimore's neighborhoods, carrying games, toys and athletic equipment to City youth.

The Fun Wagon program began in 1967 to provide fun activities to community youth who lacked recreational centers in their neighborhoods to keep them busy during summer months.

Officials say this year's wagon was purchased with a $70,000 donation from Walmart.

New toys include basketball hoops, a wildlife exploration kit and a chest filled with natural specimens to study.

The Fun Wagon will serve over 2,500 children and families this summer through BCRP's "Docs in the Park" program. The program encourages and facilitates outdoor activities to keep children engaged and moving during the summer season.

Doctors "prescribe" activities and families can fill their "prescription" for outdoor fun and games during "Docs in the Park" events.
