TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- A Towson High School teacher was charged Monday after he allegedly began a physical relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Baltimore County Police have charged 36-year-old Richard James Hanna with sexual abuse of a minor and related charges.

Police were notified on May 14 that a Towson High teacher may have been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student at the school.

The student told investigators that the teacher would driver her to area parks, including Cromwell Valley Park, Roland Park, and Wymann Park and drove her to work and home.

She told police the relationship became physical in March, when she claimed Hanna kissed and touched her inappropriately over her clothes. She told police she did not touch Hanna in an inappropriate area.

Investigators reviewed emails send between the teacher and the student and they referred to kissing as well as sexualized writing.

The investigating also indicated that the teacher and student did not have sex.

Hanna, of the 4000 block of Rock Run Road in Havre de Grace, was taken into custody in Harford County.

He was released on $10,000 bail.

Hanna is still listed as a science teacher on Towson High School's website.
