Maryland Panel Examining Corrections To Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland panel studying the state's corrections system is scheduled to meet.

The Justice Reinvestment Coordinating Council is set to meet in Annapolis on Tuesday to discuss sentencing in the state.

The council is using a data-driven approach to develop a statewide framework of sentencing and corrections policies to reduce Maryland's incarcerated population and control corrections spending.

It also is exploring ways to reinvest in more effective, less expensive strategies to increase public safety and reduce recidivism.

Maryland is getting technical assistance from the Pew Charitable Trusts.
