Ocean City 7-year-old Honored For Saving Aunt From Drowning

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- A 7-year-old has been honored by the Ocean City Fire Department for his lifesaving efforts.

On Monday, Mason Farr was thanked by his aunt, Jenny Mama, and first responders for his efforts in saving Mama from drowning.

In June, Mama suffered a spinal cord injury while going down a local water slide and was left helpless in the landing pool.

When Farr, who went down the slide before her, saw that his aunt hadn't emerged from the water, he went into the pool and held her head above water so she could breathe. Lifeguards and paramedics soon arrived to help Mama, who was hospitalized for five weeks after the accident.

On Monday, Farr was named fire chief for the day and was given a tour of the fire department.
