Confederate Flag-Wielding Neighbor Causes Tensions In Rosedale

ROSEDALE, Md. (WJZ)-- Baltimore County Police are stepping up patrols in a Rosedale neighborhood after tensions with a confederate flag-wielding-neighbor erupt into violence and tonight some of the people living there say they still fear for their lives.

Neighbors say this started with racially motivated hatred, but now it has everyone on this one street, black and white, watching their backs.

WJZ's Derek Valcourt has more.

Shirlette Jackson and her family first snapped this photo of 18-year-old neighbor Brandon Herold marching  in front of their Duvall Avenue home with a confederate flag on August 12th.

At the time Jackson said she wasn't going to think about it, but wanted to keep an eye on it.

But on Sunday Herold was back with his flag and was heard saying, "F these (expletive) N word and F this entire neighborhood, I'll kill you all."

Neighbors say Herold was confronted and a fight broke out.

Neighbor, Dave Buza, said he was just trying to break up the fight when the suspect came up to him with a knife.

Shorty after the altercation, neighbors say the suspect's father,  Harry Herold arrive and tried to defend his son.

Police later arrested both Brandon and Harry Herold, they are now out on bail.

"The father came back the next day and made it worse. He came back the next day started threatening everybody saying you better stop pressing charges," said Buza.

Many in this normally quiet neighborhood now say they feel harassed and scared.

"The last couple of days the guy's been riding up and down the street trying to start trouble with whoever he can really," said Nick Blassetti.

Another neighbor says she walks her son in the neighborhood and she's constantly looking over her shoulder.

While WJZ was on the scene Friday we saw one of the men speeding down street past some of the neighbors. They say he gave them the finger, but our cameras were not rolling at the time.

Police say they are stepping up patrols in the area.

18-year-old Brandon Herold is also facing criminal charges for an alleged hate crime attack on someone at his school back in October.  A hearing on this latest alleged assault
