BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Maryland’s Jewish community is celebrating the new year or Rosh Hashanah.

Thousands gathered at Oregon Ridge Sunday night in an outdoor service hosted by the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation.

The holiday is a universal, stock-taking holiday of hope and renewal.

It marks the beginning of the year 5776 on the Jewish calendar.

Rosh Hashanah ends at sundown Tuesday.
