Security Preps Underway For Pope's Visit To US

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --On Tuesday, the leader of the Catholic Church will be in Washington DC for his first trip to the United States.

Marcus Washington has the security preparations in Washington DC.

Security and road closures will be in effect around the university, as well as some changes on campus.

The long wait is finally almost over as final preparations are underway.

"We took out six lampposts; we took out all of our parking meters," said Frank Persico.

Since mid-July, the university has been working to make this day as smoothly as possible.

"If something gets all bottled up in one area, they may just move it back. The road closures could change," Persico said.

It's the first visit by the Pope to the United States and security is top on everyone's minds.

"We've had to show ID; we're not really used to that," said one student.

"Definitely different," said one student. "A lot of things everywhere; a lot of people here."

"We're very happy they're concerned about his security," said one visitor.

Catholic University is an open campus but that's changing now. Fences have gone up and entrances to some buildings have changed, as well. A-third of the campus is now blocked off with fences and barricades.

"Definitely lots of chaos going on," said a student.

The roads around Catholic University will begin to be closed Tuesday night in preparation for Wednesday's Mass. Attendees will need a ticket.
