Authorities Still Looking For Man Wanted In Wife's Murder

HANOVER, Md. (WJZ) --A Maryland murder suspect makes it to Times Square.

His wanted poster is up there with all the other signs, as the FBI ups its search for Bhadreshkumar Chetanbhai Patel.

Alex DeMetrick has more on that New York connection.

After Bhadreshkumar Patel allegedly murdered his wife last April in a Dunkin Donuts near Arundel Mills, he headed north, where the trail has gone cold.

The April scene of the murder on Arundel Mills Boulevard produced evidence.

Security cameras at the Dunkin Donuts were rolling. Police have now released video of the last time Bhadreshkumar Patel and his wife, Palak Patel, were seen together just before midnight on April 12.

"She suffered from several stab wounds to the upper body and all around the body,' said Lt. Ryan Frasure, with Anne Arundel County Police. "Very, very serious stab wounds."

Patel walked out of the Dunkin Donuts leaving a large kitchen knife behind.

Soon after, he takes a long cab ride to a hotel near Newark Airport and vanishes.

Police know he did not fly out of the country.

"He does have several family and friends up in New York, New Jersey area and we feel like they're helping him elude us at this point," Frasure said.

The Patels were both legally here from India and it's not known if somehow crossed into Canada to make it back.

But police and the FBI are working under the assumption he is still here.

The FBI going so far as to place his wanted poster in Times Square, six months into the case.

"We're looking to the public for help because that's the only way we're going to catch this guy," said Heather Bergey, FBI supervising agent. "We've run out of leads at this point, so we're not sure if someone has helped or if someone is currently helping him."

"They wanted posters in the Times Square area where millions of people visit daily," Frasure added. "So that's a good way to get his picture and name and information out."

Police and the FBI consider Patel to be extremely violent and dangerous.

The FBI is also offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Patel.

Along with the promise of a reward, the FBI says anyone helping Patel is also subject to arrest.
