Retirement Community Stuffs Stockings For Needy Families

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Residents of one special retirement community are stuffing stockings for Baltimore's needy.

Ron Matz reports for WJZ.

The folks at Oak Crest Retirement Community do it every year.

Anne France, 91, is the leader, and she has been a Salvation Army volunteer for 29 years.

"People here at Oak Crest love doing it," France said.

This holiday, boys and girls will receive caps, socks and much more.

"We do 400 stockings each year," Oak Crest resident Marge Wood said. "Every year there's more need, and this is something we can do."

These stuffed stockings will be distributed by the Salvation Army to needy families in Baltimore next month.

At the end of the boys table we have boys socks, hats and gloves," France said. "At the end of the girls table we have fingernail polish and manicure sets. We try to get things appropriate for girls and boys."

Oak Crest residents and The Lady Elks raised more than $4500 for the project, and they also received help from the Dollar Tree on Ebeneezer Road in Perry Hall.
