6 Things To Know About Ravens QB Ryan Mallett

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The newly-signed 27-year-old Baltimore Ravens quarterback Ryan Mallett has an interesting story beginning with his high school football career to his most recent time in Houston. Here are six things you should know about the new QB:

  1. Ryan Mallett graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas, and was ranked as the #2 quarterback and #4 overall player in the nation by Rivals.com.
  2. Mallett participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2007 and won the Glenn Davis Army Award (given to those who epitomize the US Army's high standards of excellence in community service, education, and athletic excellence).
  3. During his college career after suffering an injury, Mallett was still named one of college football's most irreplaceable players by ESPN.com, and appeared on College Football Live during the offseason.
  4. Mallett went from being the Texans' starting quarterback to being cut in a span of 19 days. He was chronically late for team activities, from oversleeping for a training camp practice to missing a team flight to Miami.
  5. He was a third-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 2011, played in four games in three seasons and then was traded for a conditional draft pick to the Texans.
  6. Mallett has completed 53.1 percent of his passes in his career with five touchdowns and...seven interceptions.

As far as making a comment about his latest behavior and getting cut, Ryan told ESPN,"It was a piece of humble pie, but it digested real quickly." Mallet continued, "I'm just here to try to be a good teammate and contribute any way I can for the Ravens."

Coach Harbaugh said Mallett could see the field in the final three weeks of the regular season.
