Paul Simon Exhibit Makes A Stop In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a multiple Grammy winner, Paul Simon is recognized as one of America's great songwriters.

Ron Matz has more on how you can see and hear his work now in Baltimore.

The unmistakable sound of Paul Simon: from his early days with Art Garfunkel, to legendary albums and his original lyrics.

Part of his words and music are now at the Jewish Museum of Maryland.

"There are more than 80 artifacts from his personal collection, his guitars, his awards, his original music," said Marvin Pinkert, Executive Director, Jewish Museum of Maryland. "The lyrics to songs like The Boxer and Mrs. Robinson, very exciting stuff."

From The Graduate to Bridge Over Troubled Water, a two time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"We have a feedback wall so I know what some people take away from it," said Pinkert. "I think that they get a sense of connection to this great artist and begin to understand his creative process and that can be very inspiring."

Paul Simon is a 12 time Grammy winner, an amazing career that's spanned nearly 60 years.

His music shaped a generation.

"The music isn't just background, it's an important part of people's lives," Pinkert said. "People talk about it as being the soundtrack of their lives. A way in which this music was something either their parents shared with them, or they shared with a spouse in a way that was very meaningful to them."

The Paul Simon exhibit is part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Baltimore is the first stop on a nationwide tour. It will be at the Jewish Museum of Maryland through Monday, January 18th.
