Steve Davis: Surprised By Mixed Reaction To Davis Signing

I guess some fans just can't be happy.

Heading into the off-season, the overwhelming opinion of fans calling and texting into the show was that the Orioles HAD to re-sign Chris Davis. People said he was the most important player to re-sign.  Those people were also skeptical that the Orioles would pony up the money to do it. So, now that the O's do it, many of these same people are complaining that they overspent and paid Davis too much.  Maybe they did, but isn't that better than losing him. The Orioles continue to take up their payroll. Here's what the last few Opening Day payrolls have been. 2012-$84 million, 2013-$92 million, 2014-$108 million, 2015-$119 million, 2016-right now around $130 million and if they add pitching, more, maybe in the 140's.

I know they haven't improved pitching yet, which they said was their number one priority, but outside of Greinke, Price and Cueto, which players would have made them substantially better. I'm not saying the Orioles have done enough to improve from last year, but you have to give them credit for spending the money.
