Ben Carson Not Abandoning Campaign, Cuts Night Short At Iowa Caucus

MANCHESTER, NH (AP/WJZ) --Retired Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson is not dropping out of the race, despite his 4th place showing at the Iowa Caucus Monday.

Carson's longtime adviser Armstrong Williams says the political newcomer has no intention of abandoning his presidential bid.

Williams says the race is a "long haul."

He adds that dropping out of the race "is not anywhere on (Carson's) radar screen."

Carson cut the night short Mondaynight in Iowa to fetch clean clothes.

His communication director Larry Ross said in a statement Monday evening that after spending 18 days on the campaign trail, he would be going home to Florida to get a fresh set of clothes.

According to CBS News, Carson said Sen. Ted Cruz's campaign used "dirty tricks" to gain votes.

"We have seen the tweets that have come out and said that I was suspending my campaign efforts and that people should be thinking about maybe their second choice, and this was before the caucuses were over," he told reporters in more detail. "That is really quite a dirty trick and you know that's the very kind of thing that irritated me and enough to get into this quagmire, to see if somehow we can bring some integrity to the process."
