Officials Celebrate Expansion Of Cybersecurity Center

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker is joining Maryland elected officials in celebrating the expansion of a cybersecurity research center in Rockville.

They're cutting a ribbon Monday for the expanded headquarters of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.

U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski says in a statement that the center bridges the gap between the public and private sectors by providing a hub for the development and evaluation of information technology security measures.

She says the building houses 22 laboratories, including two big enough to hold vehicles for testing.

Mikulski says the federal government has spent $81.5 million on the center, which opened in 2012.
