Retrial Of Man Convicted Of Killing Chandra Levy Now In May

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man convicted of killing former Washington intern Chandra Levy has had his retrial moved from March to May.

A judge agreed Friday to prosecutors' request to move the trial date from March 1 to May 23.

Levy's 2001 disappearance created a national sensation after the 24-year-old Modesto, California, native was romantically linked with then-Rep. Gary Condit, a California Democrat who was ultimately ruled out as a suspect.

Her remains were found in Washington's Rock Creek Park in 2002, and prosecutors argued her death fit a pattern of attacks that Ingmar Guandique committed on female joggers. He was convicted and given a 60-year sentence.

Defense attorneys pushed for a new trial, arguing that a key witness gave false or misleading testimony. Last year, prosecutors dropped opposition to a retrial.
