Hundreds Mourning Slain Deputy Patrick Dailey In Harford Co.

JOPPA, Md. (WJZ) -- Remembering a fallen hero. Hundreds gather to pay their respects to a Harford County sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty last week.

Visitation services were held Monday night for Senior Deputy Pat Dailey.

Meghan McCorkell just returned from the church.

Monday's visitation begins a week of mourning for Harford County, as they say goodbye to two of their own.

Hundreds come out into the night to honor a man who spent his life serving his country and county.

"Pat involved himself in every aspect of the agency and every aspect of the community," said Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, Harford County.

Senior Deputy Pat Dailey, a former U.S. Marine sergeant, spent 30-years with the Sheriff's Office.

"We want the law enforcement community to see that the citizens of the area are out here supporting them," said Andrew Mutchler, retired police officer.

Last Wednesday, Dailey was shot and killed by a suspect inside the Panera Bread in Abingdon.

The gunman then fatally shot Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon nearby, before he was killed by deputies himself.

The deaths have sent shock waves through Harford County and the law enforcement community.

"Every time something like this happens, it opens up an old wound for previous surviving family members," said Dep. Sheriff Sean Kille, Maryland C.O.P.S.

On Monday, family, friend and strangers paid their respects to Dailey's family, including his two sons--Bryan and Tyler--who in a statement, say: "Our dad died doing a job he loved, serving the community he called home."

Dailey was also a lifelong member of the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, serving alongside his two sons.

A fire service memorial will be held for Senior Deputy Dailey on Tuesday night.

"We know they're out there putting their lives on the line for our safety, and so I think we just naturally need to say thank you in a moment like this," said Ethan Magness, pastor.

A chance for the community to support someone who dedicated his life to them.

Funeral services for Dailey will be held this Wednesday.

Visitation for Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon's family will be held Thursday and Friday. His funeral is on Saturday.

The Panera in Abingdon will reopen Tuesday morning.
