Dan Szymborski Breaks Down Gallardo Physical

ESPN's Dan Szymborski joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the latest development in Yovani Gallardo's signing with the Orioles.

The Orioles expected to announce Yovani Gallardo as their newest starting pitcher after he passed his physical today. The problem is; Gallardo never passed his physical. Dan Szymborski elaborates, "I'm hearing that it might be a shoulder thing. If it's a shoulder that's a pretty big deal. We talk a lot about Tommy John surgery and elbows but if its a torn labrum or something like that, that is much worse news. Especially for Gallardo because the recovery from a labrum tear is pretty difficult."

Signing Gallardo would cost the team their 14th overall pick in the 2016 draft. Jeremy Conn posed the question to Dan: if the Orioles don't sign Gallardo; should they give up the draft pick and go after Dexter Fowler instead? "I think I would, simply because the Orioles have a lot invested in winning now. They didn't sign Chris Davis to be good in 6 years; they signed him to be good now and with the way the farm system is now they're not going to get a whole lot of reinforcements. I think it would be a mistake to pass up on Fowler. It's tough to lose a pick but you kind of have to choose to go for it or not go for it and that's been the Orioles very difficult position this winter."
