9 New Rule Changes In The NFL

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --  After making seven permanent rule changes Tuesday, the NFL's owners passed two additional rule changes Wednesday on a one-year trial basis.

1. Extra Point: The extra point was moved back to the 15-yard line. Defenses can also return these kicks for 2016 and beyond.

2. Coach-to-Player Communication: The NFL passed a rule allowing coach-to-player communication on both offense and defense regardless of whether they are on the field or in the coaching box.

3. Chop Blocks: No more chop blocks. Chop blocks are done in the NFL forever.

4. Horse-collar tackles: The definition of the horse-collar tackle was expanded. Instead of simply grabbing at the collarbone and destroying the offensive player by yanking him to the ground, now it is also illegal to drag someone down by the "nameplate."

5. Timeout Rule: Makes it a foul for delay of game when a team attempts to call a timeout when it is not permitted to do so.

6. Ineligible Receiver Rule: It used to be a five-yard penalty when a receiver would illegally touch a football after being out of bounds and then re-establishing himself inbounds. Now it is a loss of down penalty. Major difference there.

7. No multiple spots of enforcement: The NFL also eliminated "multiple spots of enforcement for a double foul after a change of possession."

Updated:

8. Two-strike Automatic Ejection: The NFL Competition Committee adopted the change that a "player penalized twice in one game for certain types of unsportsmanlike conduct fouls" will be "disqualified."

9. Touchbacks to 25: Touchbacks will result in the ball being placed at the 25-yard line, instead of the 20-yard line, also amended for a one-year trial.
