Rex Hoggard Breaks Down Day 1 Of Masters

Rex Hoggard with the Golf Channel joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn live from the Masters in Augusta to give us the latest in this year's tournament.

It was a day to forget for Ernie Els as he missed SIX shots from within four feet of the hole as he ended up with a 10 on the par 4 first hole. Rex talked about the rough outing for Ernie, "I think Ernie has earned his place in Master's history unfortunately. I have to be honest he tried on every single putt. Ernie has been struggling with his putting the last couple years and we've seen these lapses from very short range. He had a really good drive, a good approach, a great chip to two feet and then things just imploded. I mean it's hard to watch man."

Jordan Speith ended his day atop the leaderboards -6 through the first 18. Rex talked about why Jordan has played Augusta so well. "The one thing he say's about playing Augusta's green; he said he always tries to look at the highest spot he could aim and still make the putt. Now I'm not quite sure why that works but if you watch Jordan today there is something to it."
