Ronald McDonald House Hosting 5K 'Red Shoe Shuffle' Sunday

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It started five years ago as a small event. Now, it's turned into one of the biggest celebrations of springtime in Baltimore.

WJZ's Ron Matz reports what will happen on Sunday in Baltimore will help hundreds of children and parents from all over the country.

"Sunday is our fifth year for the Red Shoe Shuffle," said Sandy Pagnotti, President and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore. "It's a day of fun, joy and celebration on a Sunday morning here in Baltimore."

"We start here at the Ronald McDonald House, we go to the Inner Harbor, walk, run or shuffle around Harborplace, then come back here to the house. We have 2,500 participants, over 30 sponsors and right now it looks like we've already raised over $300,000."

Those proceeds will help families in need of a comfortable, convenient place to stay while a child receives medical care away from home.

Nevaeh Hearn, who has been at Baltimore's Ronald McDonald House for three weeks, said "it's amazing."

"You can relate with other families. All of the people who work here are so nice. They welcome you home every day. It's such a comforting environment. It's wonderful to be here."

Sunday's Red Shoe Shuffle begins at 9 a.m. At the Ronald McDonald House on West Lexington Street. To learn more or to register, CLICK HERE.
