Police Continue Search For Man Who Killed Marine In Hit & Run

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The search continues for the driver who struck and killed a Marine. The corporal was helping a stranded driver when he was hit.

Jessica Kartalija has more.

Marine Corporal William Ferrell was helping a stranded driver change a flat tire when he was hit by a truck along US 15 and Auburn Road. The search for the driver who killed the Marine and then left the scene continues.

"It's been over six months now and state police still have not given up finding the person responsible for killing Corporal Ferrell that evening in September," said Elena Russo, Maryland State Police.

You can see Ferrell's truck in the crash photo. It was raining and he was standing on the shoulder when the driver swerved off the road and hit him.

"Police are looking for the vehicles that passed the scene, that at least they can call the Frederick Barracks and give them their account of what happened that night that may get us closer to solving this," Russo said.

Police say Corporal Ferrell was wearing a bright reflective vest when he was hit.

"At this point, state police investigators believe there are people out there who may know something about this incident. That's why they aren't giving up on this," Russo said.

Police believe the truck was a heavy-duty pickup that was hauling a trailer. There is a reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
