Coleman: Are Ravens Opting For Depth Or Inventory?

After the Ravens draft over the weekend, the outcome was like the weather, not too flashy. With 11 picks fulfilling all sorts of voids, were the Ravens going for depth or inventory?  We won't know for years - not just months, but we should have a better indication as the offseason workouts progress and see who might make an impact.

I thought they waited too long to draft a cornerback and should have made a stronger move for Jalen Ramsey.  I'm still not convinced they have an inside linebacker (Arthur Brown and Zach Orr are very unproven).  They did address the pass rush issue by selecting three guys that can get to the QB: Correa, Kafusi and Judon. As Suggs and Dumervil are in their 30's, this could be good a solution, or it's back to the drawing board next May.

Of course the best, and perhaps biggest story, was the selection of Navy QB Keenan Renolds who amassed records at the academy. But will he be allowed out of his military obligation? Coach Harbaugh reminded me, "[The Ravens are] big supporters of the military." However, will that truly be enough?

I think Reynolds is GREAT PR for the academy and should be allowed to play, much like Joe Cardona with the New England Patriots. Said Reynolds during a Saturday conference call: "I'm hoping and praying, and I'm confident that this potentially could be the same type of situation with myself. Again, it's up to Secretary [Ray] Mabus of the Navy. Right now, I'm just trying to bask in what the now is, and I'm just blessed to be picked up and ready to get started."

The rookies will gather in Owings Mills for a mini camp this weekend.
