Olympic Gold Medalist Kerri Strug On Her Famous Performance In Atlanta In 1996

Kerri Strug is an Olympic Gold medalist for gymnastics who won gold in Atlanta in 1996.

Kerri joined Ken and Steve to talk about her famous vault which she nailed to win the Gold medal while not being able to put pressure on one of her ankles.

Kerri started by talking about her vault 20 years ago and what has happened since saying "a lot has changed in 20 years since we won the team Gold...I'm a very lucky girl I'm now a mother of two, it's like nothing I ever anticipated." Kerri also spoke about the moment when she nailed her vault saying "the US gymnastics team was in gold for the first time and we were on US soil...we moved on to the vault and we weren't hitting it very well for whatever reason...I fell on my first vault and injured my ankle...I remember thinking this is crazy our Gold medal is slipping away and I have to nail this."

Kerri also talked about what it was like making the transition from a gymnast to an American hero overnight "it was definitely amazing but overwhelming...I was very shy and had never been in the limelight and all of a sudden I was going on various television shows...it was amazing but a little bit scary also."
