Alex Lewis Was Drafted By The Ravens While Grocery Shopping

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Alex Lewis, an offensive lineman, didn't hear his name called during the first two days of the NFL Draft, and not even 40 picks into day three, but when the Ravens 130th selection rolled around, it was Lewis' name that was being called.

There's only one problem. Lewis didn't answer the call. He had left the house to make a quick run to the grocery store. GM Ozzie Newsome made the congratulatory phone call but Lewis couldn't get reception in the grocery store.

So Coach John Harbaugh called Lewis' home.

"So I get on the phone with his mom and I go, 'Is Alex there?' And she goes, 'No, he's not, may I ask who's calling?' " Harbaugh said. "And I'm like, 'Uh, it's John Harbaugh with the Ravens.' "

Lewis' mother asked how she could help.

"Well, we were hoping that Alex would become a Baltimore Raven," Harbaugh explained. "And we're thinking about drafting him. Is he there right now?"

She said that Lewis was at the grocery store, and then added, "Now, who is this team again?"

CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco called Lewis a "third-day draft gem." The offensive lineman is expected to battle for a backup job in Baltimore in 2016.
