Could Pitching Changes Be On The Horizon For The Baltimore Orioles?

Jim Duquette, former NY Mets GM and former VP of Operations for the Baltimore Orioles, joined the Norris and Davis show to talk about the Orioles and the MLB.

The Baltimore Orioles suffered a 10-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night which was headlined by a poor outing by both Ubaldo Jiminez and Brian Matusz. Duquette wonders what this could mean for Baltimore's pitching rotation: "It's the same story with [Jimenez]. Early on he has trouble getting it. Maybe he figures it out and maybe he doesn't. They're gonna continue being frustrated on that front. Luckily you're not counting on him to be your number 1 or number 2 starter.  Even though you're paying him all that money."

As inconsistent as Ubaldo has been, Duquette believes Matusz may have the shortest time-frame to improve: "For Matusz, I don't know where the fastball velocity has gone. Where's the stuff? Where's the crispness? The 0-2 pitch he threw to [Kyle] Seager was a nothing pitch. He ended up hitting a home run off of it. He comes in to face lefties and out of 5 lefties four of them got on base.  That's just not acceptable. If it continues, I don't know if you're going to see him around. That's how bad it's looked and the Orioles have better pitchers."

Jim Duquette also spoke about the fines levied on the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays following their brawl, the inevitable contract situation with Manny Machado plus more in the full interview.
