Ride Across Maryland Raises Money For Those Battling Cancer

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's a band of love that stretches across the state. For the 16th year, Ride Across Maryland has helped raise money for those fighting a battle with cancer.

Marcus Washington reports as part of our continuing community commitment, some of our very own were there to lend a helping hand.

It was an early morning call and hundreds of bikers across the state of Maryland revved up and took off.

"It's an opportunity for people to come out, easily have a great weekend, spend a little time with their family, come to Ocean City, party with us for the weekend and support a great cause," said Dick Gelfman.

For the 16th year, Ride Across Maryland has gathered people who are all looking to help fight the battle against cancer.

Marty Bass, Denise Koch and Ron Matz joined the fun. WJZ is a proud sponsor of the event.

"I consider it an honor," Matz said.

Departing from Columbia and ending at the Francis Scott Key Family Resort in Ocean City, the Ride Across Maryland raises awareness and funds. They've given more than $2.5 million in various grants to cancer-related organizations.

"You make a living out of what you get but you make a life out of what you give," Koch said. "And they give and they give and they give."

The event is led by Gelfman.
