Steve Bernhardt Previews Tonight's MLB Draft

Executive Vice President of Baseball Factory Steve Bernhardt joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn today to preview tonight's MLB Draft.

It is still unclear who the Philadelphia Phillies will select with the first overall pick in tonight's draft. Bernhardt gave his thoughts on who the top selection could be. "Unfortunately for those teams picking right at the top there's not a Bryce Harper or somebody like that in this year's draft, so there's still a little bit of mystery surrounding who is going to go number one. The latest rumors it's going to be Mickey Moniak. He's the centerfielder, high school kid out of the San Diego area. Left-handed hitter who can run, obviously," said Bernhardt.

The Orioles have four selections (27, 54, 69, 91) in the top 100 picks. Bernhardt talked about what direction the Orioles might go with the 27th pick. "Who knows what happens in front of them, but the rumors that we've heard are that the Orioles are looking mainly at pitching there, and mainly at the college level pitching," said Bernhardt.  Three pitchers Bernhardt said to watch for at the 27th pick were T. J.  Zeuch out of the University of Pittsburgh, Eric Lauer from Kent State University and Connor Jones from the University of Virginia.

Bernhardt also talked about the value of those Orioles top four picks in the top 91. "If there's a draft that that's a good thing, then I think it's this year. There's not clear cut guys right at the top, but there is some depth. Especially those picks like 27 through 69, those three picks that they have sandwiched in there tonight, they should get a real good player at each spot," said Bernhardt.
