The Norris & Davis Show Best Of - Week Of June 11th

This week's edition of the Norris & Davis Show Best Of includes interviews with Kweisi Mfume on his memories of Muhammad Ali, and an interview with Mike Bordick after the Orioles and Royals fight night at Camden Yards.

KWEISI MFUME

Kweisi started by talking about when he first met and became friends with Muhammad Ali saying "I first met him and our friendship started in 1977 when he came to town to help raise money for a local mosque...I was following him years before that, I remember as a 16 year old sitting around listening to the Liston fight."

Kweisi also talked about the relationship between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X saying "he got attracted to the nation and had gone to several of their meetings, Malcolm X was the one who got him to join the nation." Kweisi also talked about how the Nation of Islam and Muhammad Ali excommunicated Malcolm X as his beliefs changed saying "Ali at the time repudiated him and Ali would often go and say it was his worst mistake...he never got the chance to say it to him, but has said it to his daughter many times."

Kweisi also talked about sparring with Muhammad Ali in the ring and how outside of the ring Ali became an amazing world ambassador.

MIKE BORDICK

Mike started out by talking about his reaction to the fight from last night's game saying, "I was never one to charge the mound but it really seemed to be set up in the second inning, I'm surprised something didn't happen right there." As for how he could see it coming Mike said, "I expected something to happen in Manny's third at bat and it did, and you could tell Ventura's teammates weren't behind him."

As for whether or not the league should address intentionally hitting players with a pitch Mike said: "I guess so with the habitual offenders the guys who do it obviously, guys like Ventura with the track record...part of the game is having the ability to pitch inside but there is a difference between pitching inside and throwing at someone."

Mike also talked about how the Orioles line-up responded perfectly to the brawl with back to back homers, and overall with the 9-1 win.
