Maria Sharapova Appeals Her Two-Year Suspension

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Maria Sharapova has appealed her two-year ban for doping, imposed by the International Tennis Federation.

According to an AP report, Sharapova filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the highest court in the sports world, with the hopes of overturning or reducing her suspension.

"Maria looks forward to CAS hearing her appeal and hopes she'll be able to play again," said Sharapova's lawyer, John Haggerty.

"The ITF tribunal concluded she had no intent to do anything wrong and she thinks a two-year suspension is unfairly harsh."

Sharapova will likely get a decision before the 2016 Rio Olympics.
