Fans Of Slain Rapper 'Lor Scoota' Remember Him Through Music

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Hundreds came out to celebrate the life of Lor Scoota on Thursday. The up-and-coming rapper was gunned down last week in Northeast Baltimore.

There was a viewing that lasted for hours at Wiley's Funeral Home in West Baltimore. There was also a concert in the parking lot. It was a way for Lor Scoota's fans to remember him through music.

"You really tore up the city when people were finally starting to have hope. He was the star in the sky when everybody else just saw gray and clouds," said Quiana Harris, cousin.

To some, 23-year-old Tyriece Watson -- also known as Lor Scoota -- was larger than life.

"I just think this is crazy. I didn't really even know Scoota, but it really hurt about him dying. He was really trying to do something with himself," said Dakota Roberson, fan.

Police say someone in a green minivan tracked Scoota on Saturday, walked up behind his Honda near Moravia and Harford roads, and then shot him. Lor Scoota had just left a peace rally at Morgan State University.

"He was starting to change a pattern in Baltimore that's been consistent, and it's sad that he ended with the same pattern he was trying to stop," said Donnell Wallace, cousin.

Family spokesperson Marvin Mckenstry said the young rapper had turned his life around, and that's why so many in Baltimore could relate to him.

"He's had a history with the law that he overcame to begin to achieve the magnitude of success that he has as a recording artist. And so many young people look to him and say, 'If he can do it, I can do it,'" Mckenstry said.

A wake for Lor Scoota will be held at the Empowerment Temple at 10 a.m. Friday, followed by his funeral at 11 a.m.
